UK: ScottishPower CEO Keith Anderson has been appointed to the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Advisory Council to advise on policies supporting business growth and investment in energy infrastructure. The council, reporting to the Chancellor and Business and Trade Secretary, brings together experts from industry and academia to inform strategy on industrial growth and productivity.

The appointment coincides with ScottishPower’s largest-ever UK investment programme. The company plans to invest $32 B (£24 B) by 2028 to modernise the electricity grid, expand clean generation capacity, and decarbonise the energy system, while stimulating supply chain activity and skilled job creation.

Current projects under construction include:

  • Eastern Green Link 1, a subsea high-voltage transmission line to enhance power flow and reduce network congestion
  • A cross-border onshore transmission line linking Scotland and England to address capacity bottlenecks
  • East Anglia Hub, comprising two offshore wind farms integrated into the national grid

Anderson highlighted the role of government-industry collaboration in unlocking investment, improving network efficiency, and accelerating the UK’s transition to low-carbon electricity. The investment programme includes $13 B (£10 B) in Scotland and will create thousands of jobs across construction, operation, and supply chain activities.

The Industrial Strategy Advisory Council is expected to provide guidance on scaling infrastructure projects, enhancing energy system resilience, and supporting regulatory frameworks that enable accelerated grid development and renewable integration.
