India, Maharashtra, Nagpur: Two people were seriously injured in a flashover accident at Khaparkheda Thermal Power Plant in Nagpur district on 17 August, according to police.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when assistant engineer Vaibhav Sonule, 31, and labourer Sachin Bhagat, 39, were inspecting a fault in the plant’s 6.6 kV switchgear room.
A sudden electrical explosion took place, leaving both men with severe burn injuries. Two other individuals present at the time escaped without harm.
The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment. No further details were provided about their condition or the cause of the electrical fault.
Switchgear rooms house medium-voltage equipment used for the protection and distribution of power within a plant. Accidents of this kind highlight the risks of arc flashes and electrical faults in enclosed environments.
Investigations into the incident are expected, as plant safety procedures and maintenance practices will likely be reviewed following the event.
