UAE, Dubai: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been granted a UAE patent for its Feeder Input-Output Simulator, a tool designed to improve substation automation systems. The simulator, already in use by DEWA’s Power Transmission Division, allows engineers to safely test complex automation setups, enhancing grid reliability and supporting the digital transformation of Dubai’s electricity network.

The simulator operates within a secure virtual environment, replicating electrical equipment such as switches and relays while sending signals to real controllers. This setup enables multiple operating scenarios to be tested accurately without handling live currents or shutting down substations, ensuring safety and efficiency.

According to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, the technology reflects leadership’s vision to promote practical innovation that strengthens the resilience and sustainability of the UAE’s energy infrastructure. He noted that the simulator accelerates project execution, reduces operational costs, and improves safety standards, while showcasing the expertise of DEWA’s Emirati engineers.

Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, added that the simulator is a valuable addition to the division’s tools, providing a safe and effective environment for testing substation systems and supporting faster, more efficient work.

The simulator has already delivered measurable benefits, including lower testing and operational costs, quicker task completion, and reduced risks, aligning Dubai’s electricity network with international standards.

DEWA’s achievement highlights its commitment to employee-led innovation and practical technical solutions, reinforcing its position as a leader in the energy sector while ensuring reliable, sustainable, and safe electricity services for Dubai’s ambitious growth plans.
