The Netherlands / Belgium: Equans and Smulders have successfully completed the load-out of the offshore substation topside for the Hollandse Kust West Beta (HKwB) wind project. Weighing more than 4,200 t, the massive steel structure was moved onto a floating pontoon at the Equans facility in Hoboken, Belgium, marking a major milestone for the development.

This topside is the final of three substations constructed by the Equans-Smulders partnership for client TenneT, contributing to the Dutch government’s wider strategy to generate 40 % of its electricity from offshore wind.

The topside is now almost ready for transport to its permanent site, where it will be installed later this month atop a jacket foundation already stationed over 50 km off the coast near Egmond aan Zee in the Netherlands.

“This final substation represents the successful completion of a landmark series of projects,” said an Equans spokesperson. “It is a testament to the expertise, collaboration, and dedication of everyone involved.”

The Hollandse Kust West Beta platform not only completes a trilogy of infrastructure deliveries but also strengthens the foundation for a more sustainable Dutch energy future.
