USA, New York, Elmira: On March 7, New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) announced the completion of a years-long revitalization of a substation in Elmira responsible for providing electricity to thousands of customers, including two fundamental facilities.
The Hillcrest substation in Elmira was officially completed on Friday, March 7, following a $16 M investment by Avangrid, NYSEG’s parent company. This upgrade is part of Avangrid’s broader $7 B initiative through 2030 to modernize New York’s substations and transmission lines, enhancing grid resilience and capacity.
Now serving 2,300 customers, including Arnot Ogden Medical Center and Elmira Correctional Facility, the substation features a new transformer and two compact control houses, reducing its overall footprint, according to NYSEG.
“Upgrading our grid is a top priority at NYSEG, as it directly improves reliability for customers and strengthens resilience against the increasingly severe storms we face in Upstate New York,” said Patricia Nilsen, President and CEO of NYSEG.
