Germany, Winterbach: Pfisterer Holding SE, a global leader in electrical connection technology, has unveiled a pioneering repair joint for high-voltage subsea cables up to 170 kV. Developed for transmission grid operator TenneT, this universal plug-in solution enables seamless connection of various three-core subsea cable types, regardless of design or manufacturer. This innovation streamlines repairs while minimizing spare part inventories.
Built upon Pfisterer’s proven CONNEX epoxy resin joint technology, widely used on offshore platforms, the new repair joint offers exceptional durability and waterproofing. Its robust housing and integrated fiber-optic connection, developed by British engineering firm Power CSL, ensure reliable underwater performance. “Our universal joint allows quick and independent installation on any polymeric-insulated HVAC subsea cable, significantly reducing repair time and logistics complexity,” explains Vukašin Basara, Senior Product Manager at Pfisterer.
TenneT oversees offshore grid connections in the North Sea. Previously, repairing damaged cables required maintaining extensive spare part inventories. The universal repair joint eliminates this need, simplifying maintenance and reducing costs.
Additionally, Pfisterer offers a slip-on repair joint for subsea cables up to 245 kV, using similar components and adaptable to different conductor sizes. These advancements reaffirm Pfisterer’s commitment to innovation in offshore energy transmission.
