USA, New York, Fairport: Qualitrol has introduced its latest innovation, Arc Detection and Localization – a powerful enhancement to the Gen3 UHF Partial Discharge (PD) Monitoring System. This advanced feature directly addresses a critical challenge in gas insulated substations (GIS): identifying and locating internal flashovers with speed and precision.

Leveraging decades of expertise in signal detection and classification, Qualitrol’s DMS ARC feature uses existing UHF PD technology integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) and artificial neural networks (ANN) to detect flashovers inside GIS. It accurately estimates the location of the fault, empowering operators to isolate only the affected section with confidence.

This feature enables a safe and immediate re-energization of healthy bays, ensuring uninterrupted power flow while significantly reducing system downtime. Traditional fault investigation processes often require on-site inspection and extended outages. With Qualitrol’s ARC feature, that entire cycle is streamlined, saving both time and resources.

By combining arc detection, arc localization, partial discharge monitoring, and gas density monitoring into a single integrated system, the solution optimizes GIS asset performance and operational safety.

This launch marks a significant leap in substation diagnostics, delivering improved reliability and a measurable return on investment (ROI) for GIS operators worldwide.
