Reactive Technologies is enhancing grid stability with Siemens’ Gridscale X software, integrating it with its GridMetrix® technology for real-time monitoring. This collaboration aims to provide grid operators with precise inertia measurements, crucial for managing power system reliability as more renewables come online.

Accurately measuring grid inertia—the kinetic energy stored in rotating equipment—allows operators to respond swiftly to disturbances, reducing the reliance on fossil fuel-based inertia. Reactive Technologies’ GridMetrix® system delivers real-time inertia data, while Siemens’ PSS®E software supports advanced grid simulations. Together, they offer operators greater visibility, enabling smarter planning and investment in renewable energy integration.

Through improved modelling and network studies, the partnership helps utilities optimise grid performance, minimise blackouts, and unlock up to 30 % more capacity for renewables. Operators can now simulate various scenarios, identifying weak points and planning future expansions with greater confidence.

Marc Borrett, CEO of Reactive Technologies, highlights the importance of accurate power system simulations for unlocking grid capacity and mitigating risks. Magnus Torronen of Siemens emphasises how this collaboration meets the industry’s need for high-quality data, accelerating the transition to a zero-carbon grid.

By leveraging Siemens’ Gridscale X software and Reactive Technologies’ expertise, the partnership is driving smarter, more resilient grid operations worldwide.
