In the heart of China’s Niuji town, the 35kV Zhangwo substation plays a crucial role in supplying electricity to over 30,000 households. Recently, the State Grid Anhui Bozhou Power Supply Company faced a challenge when maintenance personnel discovered discharge defects in the switchgear during a routine summer inspection. These defects, identified through ultrasonic partial discharge detection, posed a risk to the reliability of the power supply.
To address this issue without disrupting power to residents, the company planned a “zero point emergency repair,” a strategy that involves conducting repairs during periods of low electricity demand, typically at night. This approach ensures minimal impact on the community’s power consumption.
The repair operation was meticulously organized. Company leaders held a special meeting to devise an emergency repair plan, which included load transfer strategies and the allocation of necessary materials. A medium voltage generator was brought in to maintain reliable power supply during the repairs.
The emergency repair involved multiple departments, including the operation inspection department, distribution network department, and substation maintenance center. The process required careful coordination, from live access to power generation vehicles to load transfer and dispatching operations.
The repair work began at 2:03 am local time on August 9. It was divided into three stages: inspecting the insulation of the switchgear, identifying and removing faulty components, and conducting a withstand voltage test to ensure the integrity of the repairs. Despite the mental fatigue of working in the early hours, the maintenance team remained focused and efficient, completing the task without any complaints.
As the summer season continues, the substation maintenance personnel are committed to increasing inspection efforts. By proactively addressing equipment hazards, they aim to maintain the healthy operation of the substation, ensuring that residents enjoy a worry-free and cool summer.
