Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan: The State Energy Service of Nakhchivan, Azerenergy, announced that testing and commissioning work at the renovated Julfa substation in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan has been completed.

The substation, originally built in 2004 with a 132 / 110 / 10 kV capacity to meet past electricity needs, has been fully reconstructed due to outdated equipment and increased demand.

The installation of transformers for the Julfa substation, part of the 2023–2027 Nakhchivan Development Program, has been completed. Final testing and system adjustments were carried out with specialists from Azerenergy and Turkey’s Europower Energy. The substation is now integrated into Azerenergy’s SCADA automated dispatching system.

Upgrades include a 132/110 kV 50 MVA transformer and two 110/35/10 kV 16 MVA transformers, increasing total capacity to 82 MVA. A 110 kV open switchgear unit (OSU), cable well, and optical cable were added, along with modern electrical equipment, relay protection, and automation systems.

For sustainability, solar panels and three 5 kW inverters were installed on the roof. The facility also features upgraded workspaces for personnel.

The construction of a 35 kV closed switchgear will establish a 35 kV ring power supply for Julfa district, enhancing grid stability and reliability.

The substation’s reconstruction also improved 110 kV power transmission connections, strengthening links between Bilava HPP, Cheshmebasar substation, and the future Ordubad HPP 36 MW connection.
