Uzbekistan, Tashkent: Construction is under way on the region’s first 500 kV outdoor switchgear at the Navoi Thermal Power Plant, marking a significant step in strengthening Uzbekistan’s energy infrastructure. The news was announced by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.
The large-scale facility forms part of the investment programme linked to the plant’s third combined-cycle gas and steam unit, which is currently being developed.
Once completed, the new switchgear will be crucial for transmitting high-voltage power and maintaining the stability of the national energy system. Work on the site is advancing at a rapid pace.
The project fits into Uzbekistan’s wider energy modernisation strategy. This includes the parallel construction of several modern and energy-efficient thermal power plants designed to produce more electricity while using less fuel.
The timing is significant. Electricity demand continues to grow due to economic development and expanding industrial activity. This year alone, the country is expected to require an additional 1 billion kWh of power.
By investing in advanced infrastructure such as the new switchgear, Uzbekistan aims to ensure a reliable and efficient power supply capable of meeting increasing consumption.
