Saudi Arabia: Saudi Energy has launched a tender for the construction of several 380 kV substations and associated overhead transmission lines across the Kingdom. The projects are designed to support the connection of new renewable energy plants to the national grid and form part of the country’s strategy to diversify its energy mix and expand clean power capacity.

The scope covers the Western, Southern and Central regions, reflecting the broad rollout of renewable generation. In the Western region, works include the Ashayrah Wind Bulk Supply Plant (BSP), the Mozeraah Wind BSP, including expansion of the existing HHR-5 facility, and the Mastura Solar PV BSP. These schemes will help transmit coastal wind and solar output into the main transmission system.

In the Southern region, infrastructure will support the East Al-Amoah and North Asir Wind BSPs. In the Central region, the tender includes the Tumair PV BSP, Al-Majmaah PV BSP and the NIFI Wind BSP, with some projects requiring upgrades to existing sites such as Sudair and PP-11.

The announcement follows strong sector investment in 2025, when around $15 B in substation and transmission contracts were awarded. The new tenders align with Round Seven of the National Renewable Energy Program, which targets 5,300 MW of additional renewable capacity.
