Nigeria, Lagos: The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun upgrading its Agbara 132 / 33 kV substation in Ogun State, replacing two 45 MVA transformers with 100 MVA units to boost power supply.
According to Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, this upgrade aims to meet rising electricity demand in Agbara’s industrial and commercial zones. The enhanced capacity will allow Eko Electricity Distribution Company to distribute more power to businesses and homes.
To minimize disruption, TCN is implementing a phased approach—one 45 MVA transformer is being replaced while the other remains operational. Once the first 100 MVA unit is online, the second upgrade will follow, increasing the substation’s capacity from 150 MVA to 260 MVA.
Temporary load shedding may occur during the process, but TCN assures consumers that efforts are in place to restore normal supply as soon as possible.
The 100 MVA transformer project is part of TCN’s broader transmission network expansion initiatives, which are being executed in collaboration with the World Bank.
